BOOK LAUNCH MARCH 26th 1:00-4:00pm at 224 20th Street West

Saskatchewan Atomic Monster Psychotronic Film Posters is a poster and book installation by local artist and activist David Geary.

Geary’s installation consists of numerous prints, books and ephemera inspired by psychotronic film posters. Each piece depicts satirical narratives of Saskatchewan icons as mutated monster horror stories. From “Curse of the Uranium Demon” to “Sassy the South Saskatchewan River Monster, the film posters offer a critical view of the province’s environmental history. Also exhibited will be the process and design work of the posters which reveal the artist’s graphic and creative processes.

Some of the posters for the upcoming exhibition at Storefront have been shown at international environmental film exhibitions in Vienna, Austria and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Some of the images have also been reproduced in the book Radiating Posters, published by WISE laka, Amsterdam, 2011.

Geary is a Saskatoon based multi-disciplinary artist working in video, graphic art, zines, and bookworks. He has written and published many articles on architecture, 20th century art history, and visual popular culture. Some of these publications include The Structurist (art journal), Topia, Canadian Art Magazine, Harrowsmith, The National Post, Saskatoon History Review, Rhythm, and New West Review.
